For Immediate Release: Willie Delfs Elected State President

Willie Delfs, Sioux City, Iowa was elected as the 2009 President of the Home Builders Association of Iowa by the HBAI Board of Directors. He was sworn in to office in November and will assume his duties January 1, 2009. The HBA of Iowa is a statewide trade association representing the home building industry.

As President of the HBA of Iowa, Delfs will be responsible for representing the association’s 2400 members and 12 local chapters across the state. He will serve as the official spokesperson for the state association and will be instrumental in helping to set legislative policy for the upcoming year. Additionally, he will serve as Chairman of the Board for the HBA of Iowa and as a liaison to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in Washington, DC. NAHB represents 230,000 members across the country.

Serving with Delfs on the 2009 State HBA Executive Committee are 1st Vice President Sheila Hefel, Star Builders, Inc., Dubuque, and 2nd Vice President Tari Dailey, Ogden & Adams Lumber, Cedar Rapids.

Delfs owns and operates Able Homebuilders with his brother, Woody. The company is a full service construction company specializing in energy efficient and environmental building practices. Delfs holds several professional designations including GMB – NAHB Graduate Master Builders, CAPS – NAHB Certified Aging in Place Specialists, and will earn his CGP – NAHB Certified Green Professional in late January. Delfs has been a member of the Greater Siouxland Home Builders Association since 1996 and also holds professional memberships with the NAHB Remodelers, Energy and Environmental Building Association (EEBA), Energy Star Partner, Better Business Bureau and the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce.

Able Homebuilders have won several awards including: Builder of the Year (Greater Siouxland HBA—1999); the Governor’s Iowa Environmental Excellence Award, special recognition in energy efficiency and renewable energy (2000); NAHB Energy Value Housing Award—Silver winner (2002); and the MidAmerican Energy Advantage New Homes Program—Builder of the Year (2003).

Willie and his wife Teresa reside in Sioux City and have 5 children and 4 grandchildren.
